  3. This is the demonstration version of VirusNet LAN, a complete
  4. anti-virus, disaster recovery and software distribution system from
  5. Safetynet, Inc.  VirusNet LAN detects known and unknown viruses.  It's
  6. disaster recovery feature can revive workstations that fail to boot.
  7.  
  8. This demo is identical to the retail version except that:
  9. * "For Evaluation Only" is displayed on several screens.
  10.  
  11. You may use this demo for evaluation purposes only.

  16. ======================== VirusNet LAN Features =======================
  17.  
  18. Multi-Platform Support
  19. ----------------------
  20. VirusNet is shipped with identical DOS and Windows versions and
  21. is compabible with DOS, network, and OS/2 HPFS drives.  VirusNet
  22. supports all major networks including Netware, Vines, LAN Manager,
  23. LAN Server, NT Advanced Server, Pathworks, and Windows for Workgroups.

  25. Software Distribution
  26. ---------------------
  27. VirusNet LAN includes Safetynet's LAN Scheduler & Distribution
  28. system (LANSD).  LANSD provides network control over workstation
  29. scanning and software updates.  Scans can be performed during
  30. workstation bootup, network login, or in the background from Windows.
  31. Events such as tape backups and modem transfers can also be
  32. scheduled.  Software distribution for up to 100 applications, each
  33. with up to 1,000 files is provided.  LANSD installs VirusNet to each
  34. workstation and automatically makes changes to each AUTOEXEC.BAT and
  35. WIN.INI file as required.
  36.  
  37. Known Virus Detection
  38. ---------------------
  39. The VirusNet Secure scan recently received outstanding
  40. detection scores of 99.2% in the Lambdin test and 96% in the
  41. VSUM test.  Dual signatures allow it to accurately detect viruses
  42. without producing false alarms.  Advanced algorithms are used to
  43. detect mutation, stealth and polymorphic viruses.

  45. Unknown Virus Detection
  46. -----------------------
  47. VirusNet uses heuristic and checksum scanning to detect unknown
  48. viruses.  Its heuristic scanner can detect unknown viruses by
  49. determining if a program contains suspicious or destructive code. It
  50. is highly effective at detecting new viruses.
  51.  
  52. Checksum scanning is used to detect changes in program files and
  53. boot tracks.  It is highly effective at detecting new viruses.  An
  54. Exclude Files option eliminates false alarms.
  55.  
  56. Real-Time Virus Detection
  57. -------------------------
  58. The VIRSTOP program continuously prevents infected files from being
  59. run or copied.  It can also detect boot track viruses.  VIRSTOP
  60. should be loaded on each workstation either during bootup or after
  61. network login.  By using the /DISK switch, only 3K of memory overhead
  62. is required.  On systems that support it, VIRSTOP can be completely
  63. loaded into upper memory.
  64.  
  65. Disaster Recovery
  66. -----------------
  67. If a PC's hard disk becomes corrupted, or its CMOS battery fails,
  68. the Rescue Disk feature can quickly revive the PC.  Rescue Disk
  69. maintains each workstation's boot track, CMOS, and partition table.
  70. This information can be stored for all PCs in a central database
  71. on the network or on a floppy diskette.  When a workstation fails
  72. to boot, use Rescue Disk to restore the workstation in seconds!
